Spotlight Programme

The only evidence-based learning programme focused on developing student capabilities and transversal skills.


The Spotlight Programme provides schools with an innovative competency-based learning programme.


Designed primarily for TY & Senior Cycle students undertaking Work Experience, the structured modules focus on the identification, development and demonstration of transversal skills.


 Students will be able to explore new strategies and gather evidence of their development. Teachers scaffold the learning, monitor progress and award certificates on successful completion of modules.

Bring 21st Century transversal skills directly into the classroom. Teachers and students are provided with expert content that is age-appropriate, highly informative, and delivered through micro-learning video animations.

Grounded in sound educational research in the areas of skill acquisition, cognitive science, formative assessment and user experience. Developed in collaboration with Learnovate of Trinity College Dublin.

The Spotlight Programme seamlessly embeds into Transition Year and Senior Cycle. Our learning programme meets the Department of Education’s Transition Year objectives and the learning outcomes are mapped to the Senior Cycle Key Skills Framework.

  • What is The Spotlight Programme?

    The Spotlight Programme is a 21st Century competency-based learning programme helping students identify, plan, develop and demonstrate their learning. We focus on the development of transversal skills, knowledge and values relevant for students lives now and in the future. 


    Spotlight weaves curriculum content, skills practice, reflection and assessment into manageable learning modules.

  • What will students learn?

    Through the blended learning programme, students are taught how to assess and enhance their ability to think and learn, communicate and work with others, increase their personal and professional effectiveness, and improve their use of digital technology. 

  • What year groups is the programme suitable for?

    Spotlight is designed primarily for Transition Year and Senior Cycle students. It can be delivered as a stand alone course or used across a number of different programmes. The programme is particularly suitable for students embarking on Wrok Expereince.

  • How many lessons does the programme provide?

    Each Learning Module take approximately 2 hours to complete in class, plus additional time required for students to work on monitoring their progress outside of the classroom. 

  • What teachers should facilitate this programme?

    Expert learning content is provided so that teachers can focus on helping students reflect on their learning and development. 


    TY Co-ordinators, Guidance Counsellors, and other teachers assisting student skills development and preparation for Work Experience may have a partcular interest in delivering these modules due to the deep connection to their work.


  • How is the Spotlight Programme delivered?

    The Spotlight Programme allows for learning content to be accessible to students and teachers anytime, anywhere. 


    Using Spotlight, students are provided with an easy-to-use platform that prepares them well for their continued learning journey.


  • What are schools provided with?

    Schools order an Annual School Licence which consists of access to all of the learning materials on the learning platform - video, digital workbooks, sketchnotes etc. 


    Schools can also purchase Student Accounts which provides each student with access to all of the lesson content and submit evidence of learning and development.  


    Schools can monitor their students progress, provide feedback and award certificates on successful completion of the module requirements.

  • What training is provided for schools?

    Full support is available to teachers throughout their use of the programme i.e. training guides and phone, email and webinar supports.
